Job done... winter tomorrow

31/5/2021

The 8th and 9th Holes.

A great thanks to the volunteers, staff and contractors for the work completed over the last week.  Without our willing volunteers we would not have got this job completed in the time that we have, fantastic effort. Lifting wet turf requires a lot of hands, strong backs and the ideal sized piece of turf (not too large).
Take a look at the photos post during the last week to get a picture of the work done!

This is what was achieved:
  • Two underground pipes installed.
  • Two open creeks built.
  • Five bridges built.
  • Cemetery drain cleaned and reshaped.
  • Water catchment area constructed on the 8th in the area of the bell.
  • A new path constructed from the 8th green to the 9th tee and beyond.
The holes will be back in play on Wednesday with a temporary “Ground Under Repair” rule for all earthworks, wheel and crawler tracks  and roped off sections.  A compulsory drop is required. The new creeks will be staked as penalty areas.

It will take some months for the course to “knit” back together and it should be great by mid-spring.

Carts on the 8th hole will need to use the right hand side bridges to access the green.  Access to the new path to the 9th tee will be via the back of the 8th green.

Please keep carts on the new path from 9th tee box to past the new pipe, the turf and surrounds in this area are still very wet.

The final of the Arthur Brassey was held on Saturday between Tony Rourke and Phil Jeffery.  Like many matches recently it was a very close result with Tony prevailing on the 19th hole.  Well done Tony, commiserations to Phil.

Day Two... great weather for drains

25/5/2021

Today the progress moved forward with pace:
  1. The foot bridge on the 8th creek was built.
  2. The second cart path bridge was built and load tested, successfully, with the tractor and trailer.
  3. The 9th fairway pipe installed - immediate drainage of the "Cemetery Drain" - more success.
  4. The earthworks for the 8th Fairway drain pipe and creek closer to the green completed ready for piping tomorrow.
The plan for tomorrow is piping the 8th fairway and bridge work for the new pathway.

Thursday is replacing the turf  - so if you can lend a hand and a few hours that would be fantastic.

Some photos from today's effort below.

8th & 9th Working Bee...

24/5/2021

Picture
Today was Day One of the 8/9th Drainage works.  A great roll up of volunteers kicked off the mornings work with some heavy lifting of the cut turf and storing for laying back down later in the week.  Then the excavator started on forming up the new creek on the 8th, finally the RHS cart bridge was installed.  A great days work made easier by “many hands”.
The aim is to get all the major work done this week, there will be some ongoing remedial work on parts of the fairway and rough.
