 Free Pitch Mark Repair tools.

Kevin Kenny has successfully obtained a supply of Pitch Mark repair tools for use by members and visitors to our club. They are available from the Pro Shop FOC. It is our responsibility to repair all pitch marks to the green in order to keep the greens in magnificent condition for the next player.

Bruce Smith Cup
Our annual contest for the Bruce Smith Cup is on again on Sunday 1st May 2016 with starting time 10.52 am. A team of 20 male members will contest the event against Moss Vale’s best for this coveted trophy. The sign-up sheet is in the pro-shop.  Would any members wishing to represent our club in this event, please add your names as we need to close entries by 18th April to arrange the draw.
Note added 25th April 2016  - The team of 20 is complete now

European Wasps (Vespula germanica)

Picture
We have located two nests of European Wasps next to a tree on the back of the 11th tee and under a log on the corner of the Fairways Development between the 11th tee and the 12th fairway. These pests are very aggressive and react badly to bright clothing and scents, attacking in force and delivering a bad sting. We have arranged for a Pest exterminator to treat the nests over the next few days, however, members are advised to keep well clear. Occasionally they can also be seen drinking from the tap on the side of the Captains Cairn on hot days. We hope they come from these two nests, however, if any members see additional activity, please report it to the pro shop.

Bowral v Mt Broughton, Arthur Brassey Singles, Ladies Pennants

Bowral versus Mt Broughton
The inaugural Frank Phillips Trophy was contested at our club on Sunday. An 18 member team from Bowral, ably led by Team Captain, Brian Lamb, which included 2 ladies, met the best that Mt Broughton could offer and we were successful on the day winning 5 matches to 4.
Frank Phillips, one of our greatest Australian Golfers, provided an elegant trophy which will adorn our cabinets until next we meet for the return match. The game was played in great spirit, on a beautiful day with the course prepared by the ground staff to the usual excellent condition. Dinner followed for approximately 60 members and guests who revelled in stories of what could have been and why it wasn’t. The Mt Broughton members were complimentary of our course, dinner and the social aspect of the club however, having trees to contend with, was not to their liking. As  Frank mentioned in his speech, Mt Broughton is alive and well. We will wage this battle on an annual basis.

Arthur Brassey Singles Final
Roger Williams graciously accepted the position of referee in my absence and reports as follows. “The final round of the Arthur Brassey match play trophy between Paul Pettiford and Alan Turpie on Sunday 3rd April turned out to be a close match with never more than two holes separating the players. Although Paul had to concede six strokes to Alan on handicap: the first four holes were halved, Alan using his first handicap stroke after a long drive on the fourth by Paul put him just past the left of the green. Paul took a provisional after his drive on the fifth went way left, but found his first ball and played accurately through the trees back towards the fairway: Alan took the hole to be one up. He then chipped nicely through the trees to the sixth and took the hole to be two up. Paul's second shot on the seventh was found just within the five minute search timeout and he came back to be one down. Hole number eight was halved, and after a Seve-like recovery to within 4' of the pin Paul recovered another hole to make the turn all square. After some interesting shots over the next two holes Alan was two up on twelve, but went back to one up on the thirteenth after Paul's recovery out of the left hand hazard overshot the green and was followed by an accurate chip to four feet .The fourteenth was halved, Paul took the next two and the pair teed up on the seventeenth dormie two. Despite Paul's drive going OB over the road, and aided a little by Alan's chip letting him down towards the green, the hole was halved and the match was ended with Paul winning 2 and 1.Congratulations and commiserations as appropriate.”
Thank you Roger.

Relay for Life
Club members Jill Scott and Leonie Carroll, ably assisted by Jill’s daughter Jo, manned a tent at the Relay for Life held over 24 hours at Moss Vale Showground last weekend to raise money for Cancer Research. Their tent known as the BEADles were selling leather Lap Bands for $5.00, which walkers then added a bead, foc, to the band for every lap completed. The trio raised in excess of $1,700. Well done girls.
