Snow at our course.

19/7/2015

Photos taken this morning. Our chef Rob could not get in this morning due to a tree over his road.

Tomorrow - Saturday - there is a probability that the course will be closed. Please keep an eye on the web site "Course Conditions" message on the 'Home' page. It will be updated as soon as we decide whether the course will be open. I'll also post a message about lunch at that time. kb

Clearer skys on Saturday

After a course inspection on Saturday morning it was decided that the course is suitable for play but no carts. Late yesterday it did not look so good but fortunately by morning the course had dried out sufficiently for play to proceed. (the bunkers will be GUR)
Here are a couple of photos from Damian Gair, our course supervisor taken first thing Saturday morning.

Last Thursday morning a driver of The car along Kangaroo Road reported that who car had been hurt by golfball just before nine
In this case it was one or other of two visitors probably playing the 15th. The impact is on the cars roof and we have asked the driver to obtain" four the repair. Players are reminded that there is a logbook to record out of bounds shops by the computer near the locker room.

The Club Foursomes Championship final were played on last Sunday between Alex and Sam Mulholland against Stuart Denholm and Frank Eggert. On a brisk Sunday morning at 8.30 am in cold frosty conditions, the intrepid four hit off on the first of 36 holes. Alex and Sam combined beautifully to birdie and win the first hole with Alex sinking an unbelievable six metre putt from off the green. The second hole was squared. Alex and Sam then proceeded to add a further 6 birdies by the 15th hole giving them a commanding position at the completion of 18 holes, being 6 up. After a quick bite of lunch they again hit off the first in much warmer conditions. Stuart and Frank held them in a seesawing contest however the lead was too great and when Alex and Sam got to 8 up on the 11th with 7 to go, the match was over. Both teams should be praised for the manner and sportsmanship in which it was played and the exhibition of great golf they all provided. David Boyd refereed the first 18 (in the cold) whilst I took over on the second 18. It was a great spectacle. Paul Carroll

Darryl left on Sunday flying to the UK to enter qualifying for the British Senior Open. This year he will start his endeavour  at Burhill Golf Club in Surrey then hopefully on his way to Sunningdale Golf Club where the open is held

The final of the Foursomes Knockout Championship 2015 were played on Saturday 30/05/15 between David Boyd and Pascale Timores against Bob Young and Alistair Fotheringham. The match got off to a good start in crisp autumn weather with David and Pascale winning the first hole after some controversy about the GUR on the new bridge. Bob and Alistair soon fought back and won the second to level. It was then a seesawing event with hard fort holes going either way. Only three holes were squared in the first 14. With some powerhouse driving and iron shots from Pascale and a lift in the chipping and putting from David, they managed to get in front on the 15th and 16th and finished on the 17th 3/1. A good game played in great spirit and with worthy winners.  Paul Carroll-Captain

With the influx of new members, it is important to remind existing members of the obligation we have to the introduction and welcoming of these new members to our club. Whether it is by introduction, golf lessons, advertising or just walking in off the street, our club’s future is dependent on making these new members feel welcome and among friends. As new members are of varying ages, have different personalities and  come from all walks of life, they will require different degrees of being made feel welcome.  It is important  to ensure that new members feel welcome upon joining the club and  the initial stages of membership shows that new members are very welcome and we have a chance to show-off our wonderful club. This first impression is the lasting impression new members  will hold. Show them the club’s facilities including how to use the computer, have a game with them, invite them for lunch or just coffee or drink. Don’t just leave it to the board to make them feel welcome. I understand the women golfers do this as a matter of course and  we should follow the example. If you see a face you do not recognise, introduce yourself, arrange a game or offer for them to sit at your table and have a drink. Although it is an unwritten requirement for the nominator and seconder to take on this task, it is in all our interests to take part to further spread the 'good word' of membership. We look forward to your support and co-operation. Paul Carroll

The publishing interval You may have noticed that the publishing interval of the blog is quite sporadic. It takes a while to get into it, when the Board positions have been changed. Paul and I will both contribute to the blog so it has mixed content with golf material as well as club news. The idea, or even more than that, an aspirational goal is that we will have a minimum publishing infrequency of a month and over time will improve. kb
