June Monthly Medal - this Saturday's stroke event

June 10th - Patrons Trophy & Foursomes Championship Qualifying

June 17 - The Warwick Armstrong Trophy - stableford event

June 18 - Mixed Foursomes Championship & the Wotton Trophy (handicap winners)

Last Saturday's trophy event reverted back to the original format of PAR.  This may have been due to the wintery cold weather; par being, in theory a quicker round of golf.  A great field of 81 players competed with some very good PAR scores; six golfers with +4 and 12 golfers +1 or better.  David Ferguson won NTP on the 11th and Terry Wood was the Pro Pin winner on the 14th, right in line with the hole but a tad short.

Sunday  - Medley Stableford

The Sunday medley is a great opportunity to bring mean and women golfers together, so think about getting out there and enjoying the day.

Well done to John Mellen with 38 points winning and runnner up Craig Houden with 37 on a count back from Julia Skamperle.

Clear night skies, cold air still air results in frosts which speed up the greens.  I've have positive feedback on the greens; how fast and true they are rolling. Equally good is the wind is helping to dry the course.  There are still wet sections but it is seeing the benefits of, hopefully, a change in the weather patterns.

Saturday was the Presidents Trophy competition the Keigwin Cup. First played in 1902/3 this cup represents the long history of Bowral Golf Club.  This years winner with nett 66 on a count back was John Mulholland.  Below are photos of President Clark Gibbons presenting John the cup and the other is John enjoying the moment.  Runner up was Michael Firth.

Yesterday, Sunday, our brave men and women pennants team played a friendly Men V. Women Handicap Match Play competition.  It was an enjoyable round, despite the cold conditions, followed by a sausage sizzle in the cup house.  The Men won 8 matches to 4, as always the results per matches were generally very close..  A planned rematch will take place in Spring time... A big thank you to the organisers.

Wednesday - 4BBB was a high scoring rounds with 8 teams 42 or better.  Winning with 47 points was Stuart Anthony & Peter Hall from runners up John Buchanan & Ken Dobie.

The booking and playing of matches are to be held outside normal Wednesday/Saturday competition tee times.  Contact the Pro-Shop to make the booking.  Thank you.

Saturday - 27th May  - JM Stanford Trophy - single stableford - formerly a Par competition has recently been change to single stableford at many requests from members.  The trophy is a Crystal Whisky Decanter.

Your Match and Greens Committee works on "continuous improvement" of our golf course in small steps. This ensures that we have a course which is constantly improving whether it is drainage systems, condition of the greens or trimming trees for playability and golfer safety.
This week we have continued the tree trimming program.  It has been many years since the trees on the course have been trimmed and the photos below are from todays work on the 6th and 7th holes.  This will continue for half a day tomorrow.  Hopefully you will have more options for your tee shots to the green.
A number of unsafe branches around tee boxes have been removed, with the added advantage being more sun light will reach the tee box promoting stronger growth of the grass.

This trophy is probably, if not definitely, the oldest in our Clubs history.  First played for in 1902.  Our first President T. H. Keigwin was President from 1901 to 1906. The trophy went missing for 40 years between 1910 and 1950. For that period of time there is no record of the winners... does anyone know where it was for 40 years??
​We have been able to hold onto it since then and it is a prestigious trophy, so get your name down and "be in ti to win it".

As forecast the cold snap arrived yesterday with some snow recorded as well as sleet.  The course today was in good shape and carts are on the course.  The clear skies and winds are helping to keep the surface water away.  

Southern Highlands golfer Frank Phillips died last week at the age of 90 years. Frank won 23 tournaments worldwide during his career.  He had a long association with Mt Broughton Golf club and was a member of Moss Vale Golf Club where he started his golfing career.  For more on Frank's life click on  Golf NSW News

Wednesday. - Single Stableford
Tony Hobson won with 37 points from runner up Kevin Barry with 35 points.  A tough day with the wild winds. David Simmers was NTP on the 11th and Greg Segal won the 14th hole Pro-Pin.
