![]() This years White Horse Cup is drawing to a close with the final qualifying match to be played by both Bowral teams this Sunday on their home course. Both teams have put in a remarkable effort this year, Bowral 1, led by David Burgess and Bowral 11, led by David Boyd under the overall guidance of Don Barker. Although Bowral 1 will not make the playoffs, Bowral 11 still has a chance. After suffering their first loss of the season last Sunday to 2016 winners, Jamberoo 1, they must win this week and Jamberoo either draw or loose to Shoalhaven Heads. It will be an enthralling contest. A full list of results can be found on the Golf Illawarra web site : www.golfillawarra.com.au under Pennants / White Horse Cup. A copy of the starting sheet is attached and play will commence at 7.29am. There will be 12 teams of 6, so 72 players will be on our course competing. If you like match play, come and give our players your support. They will be most appreciative ![]()
![]() In memory of our beloved Austen Richardson, his family have donated a Tankard to be presented to the Handicap Winner of the March Monthly Medal. The Tankard has been inscribed as follows : “Austen Richardson Memorial Tankard, To be presented to the Handicap winner of the Monthly Medal stroke event, held on the first Saturday in March each year” “During March, Austen requests all members, in turn, to fill this Tankard and toast his memory and the future success of the club." This means the winner is allowed to ask any and all members during March to fill this Tankard, but only once per member. A prize worth winning. The Tankard will be presented this Saturday by Austen's Son-in-law, Scott. ![]() Members will be aware from the Presidents Blog that we have, with the Boards approval, amended the way competition trophies are to be presented in the future. In lieu of having a Presentation Night in February, where all winners from the previous year are allowed a dinner voucher to attend, we will be presenting the trophy on the day of competition at the normal presentation in the afternoon. Winners who are present will be awarded the trophy, given a $50.00 voucher and have their photographs taken for the Blog and the trophy engraved, for posterity. Should winners not be in a position to attend, the $50.00 voucher will be credited to their account and trophy engraved for viewing at a later date. We would encourage all players to keep a vigilant eye on the results and if you are in the lead, attend the afternoon presentation to receive your reward. Championship winners, ie A, B & C grades together with Foursomes and Mixed Foursomes will be given dinner vouchers for players and partners to attend the Anniversary Dinner in May, where they will be presented with their trophy in a more formal atmosphere. I am sure all members will appreciate the change. In order to show our appreciation as Bowral Golf Club members of our Trophy winners and Club Champions, the annual Presentation Night was held on Saturday. A loyal band of 56 members and guests watched in admiration as all trophy winners for 2016 received their trophy, a Certificate of Achievement and the applause of the congregation. Many made speeches, which were welcome and the mood of the night was uplifting and worthy of the formal attire worn. It was a pleasure to pay homage to our winners and offer our congratulations on their success. Although they can't take the trophies home, the dinner gave them a chance to at at least hold, rub and in some cases kiss their reward and note their name engraved for prosperity. To all those who received trophies and to those that came so close as runners up, I wish to offer my sincere congratulations and thank you for attending the dinner and making it such a great night. Unfortunately our Club Champion Alex Mulholland, that's three in a row, could not be with us as he is furthering his career prospects in Melbourne, however his father and runner up, John Mulholland accepted the trophy on his behalf. |
