2021 Club Champions' presentations...

21/2/2022

An informal presentation took place last Saturday in the Club House after the competition to celebrate the achievements of our 2021 Champions. As you are aware we had to cancel the Presentation night twice due to COVID restrictions.  Around 40 members were present to congratulate our Champions. See the photos below... well done all.

Course Update...

UPDATE _ WEDNESDAY Preferred Lies  are  back.  The course is wet again!!!!!.

The bell on the 8th hole has been moved down to the bridge at the start of the path - give it a ring on your way past.

The 9th hole GUR and Penalty Area stakes have been moved due to the area recovering from last May's drainage work.  The GUR area is smaller and more of the drain is a penalty area.

Dad's Army have been, as always, working with Matt to continuously improve the course and club house surrounds.
Below the platoon has removed the plastic path on the 9th as it is no longer required.  The plastic pavers will be redeployed to other areas of the course. Also, a steel edging has been installed around the garden adjacent to the putting green.  Well done to  Anton and the team. See photos below.

A significant trophy day in our calendar.  Par competitions always "focus the mind" in one way or another.  So 93 golfers were feeling the pressure.  The cream rose to the top with Pat Donoghue & John Mcguire taking the       Jock Russell Trophy with a plus 6.  The Bill Chrystal, left handers trophy, went to David Moffet with +1 on a count back from Brian Hanrahan.  Individual winner for the day was Simon Kemp with +5, a great result.

Enjoy the tail end of a summer we did not have and your golf.

Bradford Trophy
At last we were able to finish the Championship competitions for 2021. Congratulations to Lachlan Malcolm for winning the Junior championship trophy with 35 stable ford points from our other two junior contenders brother Angus and Brodi Bell. Well done all, great to see you competing.
Stuart Denholm Memorial Stableford
Stu's sister Elizabeth and bother-in-law Douglas travelled from Lithgow last weekend to be at the inaugural memorial event. Liz was overwhelmed by the reception from staff and  members, a sign of true respect for Stu.  Plans for next year are for more family members to be present and a contingent of Lithgows finest golfers to take on the course. Well done to Tom Dunlop to win the event with 40 points, runner up was Simon Kemp with 39. NTP 11th hole Tony Fitzpatrick and the Pro-pin went to James Burkitt.

As a part of this Saturday's presentation we will incorporate the 2021 Championship winners, an opportunity to celebrate their success.  You're welcome to join and support our Champions.

Course Update...

The new Toro rough mower is enjoying a little dryer conditions and getting around the course in no time at all.  This mower cuts the whole rough in 3 days compared to the previous toro machine which took 5 days.  Enjoy playing out of the rough, it's well cut.
9th Hole GUR
Over the next week or so. keep a look out for the penalty area on the Cemetery drain being back in play.  A little more work is being done and the GUR will be a thing of the past.

Enjoy the warmer summer conditions, for a few days at least, and keep your head down and follow through!!

Changes to upcoming events....

Presentation Night
Unfortunately the Presentation Night Dinner has had to be cancelled. The reason is the risks associated with the current COVID-19 situation.  The club is very conscious of keeping our members and guests safe.  As the email sent to members today stated, a more informal presentation to Championship winners will be held, in conjunction, with the presentation on Saturday the 19th of February.  I know a lot of members were looking to catch up with friends for the dinner, unfortunately we will have to wait till things improve.

Whales Tooth
The annual competition with the Australian Golf Club has also been impacted and has been rescheduled to the Thursday; September the 8th.

Match Play - never give up...
I will share with you one hole from my round yesterday at Gibraltar, the reason being that "you never give up in match play".  The 4th hole down the hill looking over Bowral, first tee shot has gone into Cherry Tree Hill thanks to a cut on the ball taken by the southerly. Provision ball is better and on the fairway.  Next shot had to be good to have any chance, 7 iron into the wind - the result is the photo on the right.  Hole halved in 5.
All good fun.

Have a great week,

Dave Burgess
