End of June this Wednesday...

28/6/2021

COVID - 19 Regional Restrictions

You will no doubt be aware by now that the regional restrictions for COVID - 19 came into effect on Saturday evening at 6 pm and will be in place until Friday the 9th of June.  As Kevin's email of Saturday stated:
All hospitality has to be seated - we revert back one person per four square meter rule.
• Only a 50 percent capacity for outdoor events.
• Indoor mask-wearing is mandatory for patrons and employees in all indoor areas except when eating and drinking.
Golf can continue as normal, however, we will not be accepting green fee players or members guests from all of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, and Wollongong during this period.

As always, we will keep you up to date with any changes to these directives.

Course Update

Golfer Safety  - our top priority
We all have an individual responsibility to play the game of golf safely.  That means not only considering the safety of other players but also our own safety.

The new path installed from the 8th green to the 9th tee box MUST be used by all players accessing the 9th tee. This eliminates the risk of being hit by a ball played by the group behind you on the 8th hole.

A sign will be installed adjacent to the eight green for players information.
Picture
Last Friday's session for novice golfers was a great success.  The aim is to get our new members and new golfers confident to play social golf and then competition golf when the time is right.  It's all about enjoying the game and having a bit of fun.  If you have some time to coach a group - 10:30 Friday's at the first tee.

Recent Results

Pennant Hills Cup
Sunday week ago David Ferguson (HCP 1) had a great round of golf against a very talented field of 80.  David played the front nine four under par and the back nine three over to tie for the lead at 1 under 70.  Unfortunately David missed out on winning the play off.
Fantastic result and a great representative for Bowral Golf Club.

John Owens 4BBB Knock Out

Last Tuesday the final of the John Owens was battled out.  It was a great match with some frayed nerves on display as well as some well executed par saving putts.  The winners were Tony Fitzpatrick and Jim Phillips.  Runners up Ash Southon and Nick Reinhard.
Picture
Wednesday Single Stableford
Well done to Langdon Emery with 36 points on a count back from John Buchanan.  NTP 11th won by Patrick Lane.  Langdon also won the PRO PIN.
Picture
GOLDEN NUGGET 9
A good role up of players for a Winter's day.  Winner was Robert James with 19 points and runner up Nick Reinhard with 18 points.

It's a great way to finish the week and a good social event around the club house fire.
Saturday Single Stableford

A solid turnout of seventy players on a wet course,  numbers were down due to "no carts".  It is always a tough decision to restrict carts for any competition day as a lot of members miss out on the playing the game. Until we get an "all weather cart path" we will have to protect the course from damage. Hopefully we get this "all weather path" in the near future.

Our visitor from Campbelltown Golf Club, Owen Turner was the winner with 35 points and runner up was David Ferguson with 34 points.  James Pinkstone won the NTP on the 11th and Paul Barnes took home the proceeds from the PRO PIN.

Monday Madness

This has been extended to eighteen holes and on a cold overcast Bowral winters day Ash Southon won with a respectful 39 points from Nick Reinhard (points not mentioned to minimise embarrassment).  You can always ask him how he went.

Upcoming challenges...

Monthly Medal - next Saturday brings in a new financial year, well worth investing in a challenge for the medal.

As mentioned a number of times, the entries for the J W Draper, handicapper foursomes knock out closes this Wednesday, last chance to put your manes on the entry sheet opposite the score card scanner n the club house.

The Bruce Smith Cup, BGC vs MVGC, 4BBB competition is on the 25th of July, we need to finalise numbers by Wednesday this week.  It's a great opportunity to represent your club.
Play well,

Dave Burgess

Winter Solstice Edition

21/6/2021

Picture
We have reached the Winter Solstice, the day of the year, when we are furthest from the Sun… no wonder it feels cold on the first tee.  Hopefully some warmer and drier days ahead.

Recent rains while being relatively light falls (13 mm and 17 mm) has resulted in a very wet course and unfortunately carts cannot be used on the course till it dries some more.

As usual, I have a drainage update below... some good news.

Membership Subscriptions...

Remember to pick up your new membership card featuring the historic CHOGM landing on the 18th fairway in February 1978. Plus the member key ring.

Landscaping Materials Wanted...

Picture
If you have surplus and unwanted landscaping materials, such as fence posts, timber railing, concrete blocks, pavers, stones etc please send me an email bgcclubcaptain@gmail.com  with the details of what you have. We are keen to build up a stock of material for our continuous improvements to the course.

Golf Course Update

After a few weeks wait, the council contractor arrived this morning to clear the blocked stormwater drain under the 15th fairway. The truck has a high pressure water pump (plus 200 metres of hose) which drives a steel cutter and sprays to cut through the tree root which had completely blocked the drain.

In addition, our drain from the dam spillway to the 13th pond was also cleared of tree roots.

A successful morning with both drains flowing freely.
Monday Competition.  From the first Monday in July the competition will move from being the nine hole competition to an eighteen hole, the aim is to see if this is going to attack more players.

Course Update

Picture
Corella control.... you may have noticed these "props from the Doctor Who set" on the 10th and the 14th greens.  We are trialling these to see if they protect the greens - they are solar powered and emit light and  ultralight sound waves.  Fingers crossed they will help, we are working on a few more controls as well.
8th Green Cart Path
This week we lay down more of the plastic Cortex Sure Pave sheets to provide a more a dedicated path for the carts to follow.  These sheets are an effective support for the carts and settle into the grass with the mowers able to cut over the top of them.

Course Update

8th & 9th Holes
Thanks for the positive feedback on the major works, we will be continuing to improve the condition of cart paths around the back of the eight green and the ninth fairway over the next couple of weeks.

15th Hole
Due to the condition of the drain below the dam wall, this area has been staked out as a lateral water hazard, red stakes. We are working on a long term solution for this area.  I will keep you posted.

6th Hole - Eagles Nest
With the implementation of the MiCub software we are unable to accumulate balls when the Eagles Nest is not won.  Therefore, we have implemented a two ball Eagles Nest prize, if it is not won the two balls will go to the field as additional balls in the Ball Rundown.

Garden Renovation - 5th Green & 6th Tee Box
We need another 15 to 20 native shrubs to complete the good work John Hopkins has been doing in this garden bed.  Contributions are welcome from Members who can assist.  Please contact John on 0401 695 769.

Thanks
