CAPTAIN V CAPTAIN

31/10/2016

You are invited to play in the annual Womens Captain v Mens Captain team event which is on next Sunday the 6th November 2016 with hit off between 11.06 am to 12.09 pm.  This will give all players time to come in for a drink and lament on their loss or delight over their success. Our Sunday Medley Competitions have taken a bit of a hit over the past 12 months, attributed to the success of the Friday afternoon competition. This is your chance to have a game with your partner on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. The match will be a Stableford  4BBB Teams event, which will be played in great spirit and the winning Captain will have bragging rights for the next 12 months. Should we let the women win ? I don't think so, however I need your help. Bookings are through the computer and If you need a partner, just put your name down and Barbara or myself will arrange. We are looking forward to seeing you on the day.

IS IT A LOST BALL

24/10/2016

Picture
Let's pretend we are playing down the 8th fairway and over the hill about 70 meters out from the green, when we notice there is a golf ball sitting  just off the fairway in the rough. It looks like a Titleist Pro V1 in pretty good "nick", but it is marked with 3 red dots. What do we do. Although there is no Rule concerning picking up of stray balls on a course, etiquette and common sense would preclude all players from adopting this practice unless they were absolutely sure the ball was actually lost. Care must be taken that there are no other players within the vicinity, including players from behind or on other fairways, who may have hit their ball to that point. We may have all, from time to time, picked up a lost ball, however it is a bad habit to adopt. Under no circumstances should a ball, which you believe to be lost, be picked up during a competition. If you feel you must pick up a ball on the course, which is not yours, you must first ascertain that it does not belong to anybody else within the area and that it is actually lost. Put yourself in the position of the player coming over the hill and not being able to find his / her ball in a major trophy competition. The Captain would not be happy. It it also worthy of mention that you should all mark your golf balls to avoid any confusion over which ball, belongs to which player. Rules of Golf 12.2 refers.

OXLEY PLATE - Moss Vale

13/10/2016

Picture
On Sunday 09/10/16, ten mixed pairs headed to Moss Vale Golf Club to do battle for the Oxley Plate. We were welcomed by Robyn John, the Club Captain and soon were on the first tee. Although we put up a brave fight, Robyn's hand picked troops, trounced us on their home course 9 to 1. The redeeming light was Chris Hill and Jim Phillips who were the only Bowral contestants to win on the day. The game was played in good spirit and we all met in the club house for soup, sandwiches and beverages. I presented Robyn with the Oxley Plate, which they have held since 2011 and promised, that as this game was only a warm up, next year we would be a force to contend with. Although the greens were recently renovated, the course is on the way back and the Moss Vale club were most hospitable. I would like to thank all those members who participated, especially those who volunteered at the last minute, for representing the club. A most enjoyable day out.
