Practicing on the course

28/8/2017

Picture
All members would be aware that we have a code which covers the practice of Golf on our course. The following text is from the 2017 Members Handbook pages 12 and 13.

PRACTICE
The protection of the Course is paramount. Members are required to be aware of the following rules;
  • When the Course is closed, practice of any kind is prohibited.
  • Practice from/on fairways is not permitted.
  • Under no circumstances are greens other than the practice green to be used for general practice.
Members should note that any breaches of the above may be referred to the committee and may result in playing rights being suspended.
"Members may play a practice round on the Course but no more than TWO BALLS are to be used.
The Club has a putting green between the Clubhouse and 18th green. There is a practice area and chipping green between the 1st Tee & the 18th green.  Members may hire range balls from the pro shop.
Members may play practice strokes to an adjacent fairway in the direction of play from any area of rough on the Course PROVIDED that players on the Course are not inconvenienced.
Sand Buckets must be carried at all times when practicing and divots repaired.
When using the practice area between the first and eighteenth fairways on competition days, practice balls must be collected prior to competitors playing those holes.
The Pro Shop uses the first fairway for lessons and its availability for practice should be confirmed with the Pro Shop."
In addition to the above, practice nets have been provided behind the Pro Shop for members use.

Why am I mentioning this you may ask. The following photo is of pitch and chip divots taken on the 15th fairway just past the hazard. A member or intruder have obviously been practicing their golf to the 15th green, which is strictly against our overall practicing policy. Not only have they been practicing, they do not even have the courtesy of filling their pitch marks with sand.  Should any member witness persons practicing outside the Clubs policy, please advise the Captain or Pro shop immediately, so remedial action can be undertaken without delay.

Working Bee to pick up sticks.

28/8/2017

We held a working bee on Friday to assist the ground staff with picking up sticks and branches to enable them to keep on top of the mowing of the rough. With approximately 20 willing workers including 3 female members, we managed to clear debris from most of the course and add it to the pile on the 7th tee for destruction. It is amazing just how much debris can be collected by these willing members in just two hours.  I didn't have a chance to thank all participating members personally, however, the club, myself and the ground staff are most appreciative of your efforts. A job well done. The photos show the extent of your efforts.

Sunday Medley

14/8/2017

A field of 44 members and guests competed in a novelty team stableford event on Sunday in beautiful weather. The winners on the day with 60 points were Pam and Don Barker with their friends, Jill and Adrian Lutton, visitors from Shaolhaven Heads. Runners up on a count back at 57 points, were Rosemary and Terry Downing with Phillip. Downing and Suzie Crawford, who all received vouchers. Balls were handed out for the novelty prizes such as straightest drive, nearest the pin, drive and pitch and longest drives on the 18th. By the time the story got to me, our beloved President Kevin Burke, had driven the bell on the 10th and nearly hold the pitch. I am not sure what happened after that, but he did win a ball on the 12th for a similar feat. The $15.00 entry fee included a ham roll with assorted condiments, cooked and prepared by the Captain and his wife, Leonie. Consensus was that it was delicious. It was a great day and we look forward to the next one on the Sunday 10th September (announced as the 17th, but not so) for a shotgun start at 10.00am. As you are in teams of four and it is a very informal event, there is little pressure to perform as you can rely on your partners help and we would welcome all new members and guests as an introduction to golf and the club.
