Foursomes Champions...

Yesterday, Sunday, was the final of the Foursomes knock out.  It is a 36 hole event and you guessed it... it went for the full 36 holes.  Those in the finals were the teams of James Pinkstone & Nick Reinhard v.s. Wayne Knapp & Geoff Alcock.
Jimmy and Nick were off with an early lead of 3 up and then the match tightened to all square in the second round and finally Wayne and Geoff won 1 up on the 36th hole.  Well done to all, the match was played in great spirit and was enjoyable to watch. The photos below show the gallery which increased throughout  the day of interested members.

The Palms Golf Studio - golf day at BGC

Over one hundred golfers enjoyed a fantastic day of golf last Friday for the Palms Golf day. The course was in great condition and handled the shot gun start well. Thanks to Chris Kunz for the photos of the day and the wild life.  Thanks to Kevin and the team for hosting this event which was a great event for the club.  I never knew that Echidnas could swim, especially Loch Ness monster style.

Course Update...

The current course drainage work was completed last week.  Apart from cleaning out existing drains the major work completed was the underground drains on the 16th fairway and the left side of the 3rd green. These areas will be grassed over this week. A bridge has been installed on the second hole - see photo - click to enlarge...

In addition, last week the pipe has been installed on the start of the 3rd fairway and the pathway is now open. See the photos below... filling the excavation with aggregate and the finished job.
Note: OB marker pegs will be installed on the 18th hole along the Karrara Estate boundary.

Stormy weather....

Club Championship qualifying rounds...

Saturday morning was perfect golfing weather and then in the afternoon there was a change.  Heavy rain and distant lightening for around 40 minutes interrupted the completion of the round for some 34 players.  However, it did test out the drainage works (not the best time to do this) with 26mm of rain but it is working well - see image opposite of the 6th/11th hole.
Picture
As I was stranded on the 7th tee and unable to communicate with those golfers in the clubhouse and explain what was to happen regarding finishing their rounds, we have rescheduled the first round qualifying and multiple trophy events for those 34 players effected for this Friday and Sunday.  All have been emailed with details.

3rd Hole Green side "water feature"...

As we continue to improve with course drainage a major improvement was initiated today.  The "water feature" on the 3rd green will be gone as the underground drainage is being installed and will be completed tomorrow.  The video and pictures are from todays workings.

Course Update...

Picture
The rough mower has been out and cutting into those uncut areas which are drying out.  The 30 mm last week did not help but the uncut areas are reducing in size. The greens are getting some growth and they will now be cut on Saturday mornings as well as during the week. Click on the photos to enlarge them.
Drainage Update
Last week Blake was back at work cleaning out drains around the 8th tee, 13th hole, 15th hole, 6th/7th holes and behind the 11th green.  Work is continuing this week on the 16th fairway installing underground drainage to remove surface water which sits in the area of the old fairway bunker.  See photo adjacent.

Club Championship Qualifying Rounds... coming up

The next two Saturdays are the qualifying rounds for the Club Championships.
Note: the Championship Finals will be played on the Sunday, 18th of December.
Course GUR:

The course will have GUR areas marked with white stakes or white paint due to the course works and weather effected areas.  Remember that wheel tracks and damage caused by the drainage works is GUR as per the local rule. Penalty areas are marked with Red stakes. Bunkers will continue to  be GUR.

Club House reopens this Wednesday...

The roof has been repaired, the ceilings have been repaired, new lighting installed and with a fresh paint job the club house is looking fantastic. No photos could do it justice.
Now all it needs is all our members getting in there to enjoy the surroundings and have lunch and maybe a drink.

See you there...
