October - Championship time...

3/10/2022

Foursomes Championship
The draw will be posted tomorrow for the eight qualifying teams. I've been away for a couple of weeks, so I'm catching up...
The aim dates, due to the "not so good weather forecasts" are as follows:
Round 1 by the 16th of October
Round 2 by the 23rd of October
Final round on the 30th of October.

Club Championships
The 22nd and 29th of October are busy Trophy days and the qualifying rounds for the Club Championships. This year due to the compressed time frame for events the Watson cup will be played over two rounds not three. Also, in addition to the Lifestyle Cup, the Bradford Trophy and the Veterans Plater we have a new Trophy,  the Country Trophy.  This is for our Country members, a nice rose bowl trophy.

Recent Results...

Last week was a tough one for the course, dealing with over 100 mm of rain on an already saturated ground was challenging.  Thankfully the drainage work was able to redirect water to the creek and boundary drains rather than across fairways.  However, it was still a very wet course.  However, not too bad today, we had about 50 visitors play and they enjoyed the course. The test is whether your shoes are a mess when you walk off the 18th green, today they were okay.

Wednesday - Single Stableford
Following the storm on Tuesday night a very small field of 12 took to the course. Greg Segal posted an impressive 39 points to win from Russell Bourne with an equally solid round of 38 points.
Kevin Barry won NTP on the 12th hole and Greg Segal won the 14th Pro-Pin.

Saturday - Single Stableford
Due to the conditions the October Monthly Medal has been moved to the 15th of October. Again a small field due to the showery day.  Peter Whittall won with 37 points and Ash Southon was runner up with 34 points. We had four visitors from clubs around Newcastle, they had a great day and stated they will be back.  Great news. Jimmy Pinkstone just won the NTP on the 13th by a very slim margin and Peter Whittall won the 14th Pro-Pin.

Sunday - White course Medley Competition
Luke Kalaizis won with  great 39 points. Well done.

This week:

The Vicars Shield is on the Wednesday and next Saturday, a bit different from previous years but  the year is getting very busy.  Hopefully the forecast rain drenching does not come to fruition. Cart access to the course will be reviewed tomorrow.

Titleist Fitting Day

Monday the 24th of October from noon to 5 pm.

Perfect timing for Christmas.

The Governors Legacy Day

Our club was invited to play in the annual Governors Legacy Day golf event, this year played at the Australian GC. As Legacy is our clubs primary charity it is always an honour to be invited.  This year our Vice President, Clark Gibbons, led a team of course volunteers to represent the club.  Consisting of Peter Cottee, Pat Donoghue and last but not least John McGuire, made up the four. A great day, free of rain last Thursday, was had by all, especially Clark who nailed 37 points.  John looking resplendent with new golfing shoes looked the part until the blisters emerged, requiring a quick change of footwear in the car park.

A couple of reminders:
  1. Repair your divots - it's a wet course but it still needs some TLC.
  2. Repair your pitch marks - the renovated greens are very soft, sop take some care to repair the pitch marks from your excellent approach shots.
  3. Finally, golf can be a frustrating game at times so please remember that we have neighbours within close proximity to a few of our tee boxes.
Enjoy Spring!!!
