As a result of the wild weekend weather the BGC White Horse Cup team remain undefeated. They have now notched up a bye and a washout, and are firmly in line for a spot in the playoffs. In the pool which features the BGC team the current standings are : Sussex Inlet #2 and Jamberoo #2 in equal first place followed by BGC and Wollongong equal second with Shoalhaven Heads last. Our guys head off to Jamberoo to face off against Wollongong next Sunday. The team will be chosen on Wednesday, best of luck lads!!
Two things please, firstly the course will be very soft and all players need to be conscious of repairing any damage they cause or come across. Secondly, could all players please delay their tee shots from the 11th tee until players ahead have cleared the 12th tee signpost. There have been a few near-misses lately. Thank you.
Wednesday 5th February. My appreciation to Paul Carroll for standing in for me and running the presentation. 75 players made a good field for a midweek competition. It's great to see the support for our competition days growing steadily. Winner of the day was Peter Campbell (18) with 39 points on count back from Don Barker (21). Since this was the first Stableford event following the introduction of the WHS it was interesting to note that there were 12 players who played to 36 points or more. The Eagle's nest was not won, the NTP 11th went to Ken Street and the pro pin to Tony Rourke. A visitor from The Ridge joined the field.
Saturday 8th February. Only 6 players swam the course on a day better left to fish!!. This was the practice round for the upcoming PAR trophy event. Tony Fitzpatrick (15) won the men's 100m freestyle with a +3 score from Mathew Helm (17) a lap back with -3. A really tough day in the pool, well done guys. Unfortunately the NTP's washed away and I couldn't find the results. Don't stress, the prizes will have been credited to your club accounts.
Sunday 9th February. No play today, as the course was closed.
Due to the inclement weather there was again no presentation. Thus the question from 2 weeks ago is still in play. Check it out and try your luck next Saturday after the Patron's Trophy.
The mystery member is still unidentified, so here's another clue. Remember to email your guess to [email protected]

The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!
The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze ...
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand
though Earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.
