On Saturday, Alan Lindsay joined the elite group of members who have achieved a Hole in One on our course, during the competition. Alan hit a superb shot at the 11th hole, clearing the tree on the left to run it into the hole. Not only did he receive a ball for the "Nearest the Pin and his name etched on the Honour Board, he also had the privilege of shouting the bar a bottle of Jamison's Irish Whiskey, which was readily consumed by members staying back for the presentation. Alan tell's me, it has only taken 70 years to achieve this milestone, so there is still hope for us all. The photo gallery records the progress of celebrating his achievement. Well done Alan and congratulations. Last Saturday in very windy conditions, we not only competed for the Monthly Medals, but also for the John MacMaster Memorial Medal. Our winner of the trophy, on a count back, was David Burgess with a net 69 from David Simmers. Being a "newer" member of the club, about 8 years, I am often unaware of the history or profile of the past members who donated the trophy. In a game with John Mulholland, he mentioned that he knew John MacMaster as a quite, shy, reserved gentlemen and had a story concerning the escape of some chooks from the back of the MacMaster Ute going down the highway to Tahmoor. John offered to share this story at the presentation, which made it all the more special for Dave Burgess and us all. Picture shows David accepting the trophy, which he had previously won. His brother Peter, also a MacMaster Trophy winner, held bragging rights up until last Saturday and David was looking forward to getting ahead once more. Other medal winners on the day were "B" grade, recent member, John Carlin and "C" Grade, a consolation for David Simmers. Congratulations to all winners as it was a tough day at the office with a DSR of 72. |
