Last Friday, after hitting off at about 2.30pm in the 12 hole comp, we got to the 5th hole and the heaven's opened up causing us to abandon play. The walk back to the club house was not pleasant, however it was great to get back inside out of the rain. As you will see in the attached photograph, Friday drinks usually start at 5.00pm, however last Friday they started a little earlier. The runoff cleared quickly and the course will be better for the deluge.
Saturday's event was held on 11/11/17, Remembrance Day, in ideal conditions. The winner of the Remembrance Day Shield was Dick Hiser with a net 65. Dick was most enthusiastic with the win as the attached picture of the presentation will attest. It is a huge shield and Dick joins an elite group of past winners. Co-incidentally, Dick is also a very worthy winner, as he is a retired pilot from our Air Force. Remembrance Day is a most solemn day in our Australian calendar and a minutes silence was observed at the presentation to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many, so that we can live our lives in peace. We are now at the "pointy end of the stick" for the Club Championships with all match-plays completed to arrive at our finalists for competition for these coveted trophies on Sunday 19/11/17. It has been an enthralling competition to date with with several "B" graders moving to "A" grade to fill the field and gain valuable experience and in some cases, possibly giving them their only chance of ever achieving immortality by winning the Club's Major Trophy event. Attached are the results of games played to date. You will notice the Captain went down to Jim Phillips on the 37th hole on Monday in mixed conditions. Jim is a true competitor, who is relentless in his attack on the pin on each hole. He was a very worthy winner and it was a most enjoyable game. I will see all finalists on the tee on Sunday 19/11/17 for an 8.30 start for "A" grade over 36 holes and a 12.30 start for "B'" and "C" Grades over 18 holes. Members are welcome to come and watch and offer support to these true combatants.
