We continue to have challenges with certain areas of our course mainly due to ground water at the moment. The strong winds, while somewhat irritating, will dry out our course and make it more enjoyable to play.
The temporary cart course proved popular last Saturday with around 23 rounds, 18 and 9 holes, being played. This addition resulted in over sixty players enjoying the game, the highest number for some months.
Fingers crossed, this week will allow Matt and his team to mow the majority of the course and minimise the difficulty in finding your ball from a wayward shot into the rough. Keep an eye out for mine, your welcome to them...
Bowral Golf Club History...
Over the next few weeks I will be posting a new addition to our history which came to light earlier this year. After the restoration of a book on the thesis on greenkeeping in the greater Sydney region by a former greenskeeper for our club in 1938, I welcome Arthur Stone to our history. His family have donated to the club his greenskeeper thesis (handwritten) and a number of his hickory shafted clubs. To my mind, Arthur's work is significant to the broader golfing community, so I will take some time to publish this history as accurate as I can.
As our Country Membership grows we have introduced a medley trophy for this category. This is in line with the Lifestyle Cup of recent years. A very fetching silver bowl has be donated for this event which will be held at the same time as the Lifestyle Cup. It's all about having something to play for... |
