- Saturday 8th February, the daily competition is a PAR event, one of very few in the calendar. Timed to give you a chance to prepare for the Jock Rossell.
- Saturday 15th February, The Patron's Trophy. This is a 'Foursomes Only' competition, and is also the qualifying round for the Club Championships in Foursomes. The draw for the playoffs will be published on the notice board the following Monday.
- Sunday 16th February, The RFS Charity Day. Still plenty of time slots available between 09:00 and 1pm. Donations towards prizes are still coming in, and currently the competition major prizes include a current series iPad, a $250 gift card to Bunnings and a $130 gift card to BWS. There are quite a number of golf products already donated, and any further donations will be very gratefully received. If you are unable to play on the day and wish to donate a playing entry fee of $45, a button has been dedicated on the pro shop till. All funds received through the golf activities and the associated raffles will be donated to the local RFS brigades. See the flyers in the clubhouse for updates.
- Saturday 22nd February, The Jock Rossell pairs PAR event.
- Saturday 29th February, The President's Trophy and the Annual Anniversary Dinner.
Recently a number of members and staff answered the captain's call to help paint the Members' lounge. As the trophy boards had already been re-hung, it was obvious that the walls were in great need of a coat of paint. My thanks to : Kevin Kenny, Tim Davis, John McGuire, John Mulholland, David Stanley and Paul Carroll for again putting in the effort. The result is a great improvement. Interestingly the painting was done during a power outage, so that's our excuse!!
It's that time of year again, and the BGC has a team entered in the Illawarra District White Horse Cup competition. The teams consist of 7 players, each of whom play in a match play format against a player from one of 4 other teams in our pool. As BGC were hosting the first round we received a bye, and had the privilege of watching our future competitors as they played our course. Bowral team captain Dave Burgess says there were plenty of good comments on the quality of our course. The BGC team has their first hit-out next Sunday against the Sussex Inlet #2 team at Shoalhaven Heads. Tee-off times are still under negotiation. The team for our first outing is : Ash Southon, Tony Rourke, John Mellen, John Ferguson, Brian Hanrahan, John Buchanan (plus one other still to be confirmed). Congratulations on your selection to represent the club, and we wish you the very best of luck. I'll be adding the WHC results to the blog each week.

Wednesday 29th January. This event became an American Foursomes format due to the processing of the World Handicap System, and the unavailability of the handicapping computer. The team of Terry Downing (19) and Norris Dudgeon (21) posted the winning score of 67 to win by the barest of margins (1/8 of a stroke) from Dennis Cooper (24) and Jim Larkin (13). The Eagle is safely nesting with 12 balls for next week's competition. Jim Larkin won the NTP 11th and Peter Metcalf won the pro pin. There were 52 players in the field which included one visitor from Campbelltown.
Saturday 1st February. What a monster of a day for a Monthly Medal. The temperature was approaching 30 degrees at 7 am, and by the afternoon had exceeded 43!!! Just 5 brave (??) players ventured out into the afternoon sun. The 'A' Grade medal was won by Glen Welsh (13) with a net 65 from John Mulholland (10) with net 67. The 'B' Grade medal went to Les Brooker (18) with a net 65 from Peter Campbell (18) with a 66. 'C' grade was won by David Bleakley (26) with a net 70 from Russell Bourne (24) with 72. The scratch winner was John Mulholland with his 77. John Ferguson figured out a way to topple the Eagle and won 3 balls for his effort, Paul Carroll won the NTP 11th and Les Brooker won the pro pin. 55 players in the field. |
As the presentation was not held due to the extreme weather of the day, the question from last week will carry forward (go and read it now).
"Who Am I ?" Competition. I'm getting lots of responses on the current mystery member, but thus far no winner. A new clue might make the difference. Remember to send your guess to [email protected] to enter. "I've been associated with golf and design and numbers for most of my adult life". Who am I? (Note, the photo is a logo only.) |
After I waited patiently while my husband played a round of golf on our 18th wedding anniversary, he and I went out to dinner at a lovely restaurant. We discussed many happy memories we've shared during the years.
Then I said "Want to go for another 18?"
"No" he replied, "I think it's too dark now!"
Now Go Out and Enjoy a Game of Golf !!!
