This Saturday (22nd) and the following Saturday (29th) are the qualifying rounds for the Club Championships. In addition the following trophy events will be played on these two days:
- Lifestyle Cup - Lifestyle members trophy event; handicap stroke
- Country Cup - a new trophy for our Country members; handicap stroke
- Veterans Plate - handicap stroke event for 65 years and over
- Watson Trophy - scratch even; this will be limited to two rounds this year
The temporary nine hole course will not be available for these two Saturdays.
Matt and the team are busy with preparing the course for these two rounds with the rough mower out getting to all possible areas.
Last month the Patrons Trophy, a foursomes handicap event over 18 holes, was held in conjunction with the Tom McKay Trophy qualifying round. Last Saturday our patron, Brian Lamb, presented the trophy to the winners, Terry Downing and Norris Dudgeon.
As Brian explained at the presentation, this Trophy was introduced by Les Price in 1991, Club Patron 1987 to 1997, who firmly believed in the tradition of the foursomes format. Les was a former President and Captain of Bowral Golf Club as well as Mayor of Bowral.
Wednesday - Ambrose Competition
As the course recovered from the last drenching it was appropriate to have a "tee it up" Ambrose competition. A small field of 23 took part with the winners with a nett score of 60.33 were Peter Shortle, David Burgess and Brian Hanrahan. Runners up with nett 65.5 were Martin Flaxman, Tony Hobson and Neil Landry. Piero Dal Bianco won the NTP on the 11th hole and David Burgess won a modest Pro-Pin.
A tough scoring day for the field of 53, only one nett score at par, great weather for golf, however.
A Grade - winner Paul Barnes nett 70 with Jimmy Pinkstone runner up nett 71.
B Grade - winner Chris Kunz nett 69 with Gregory Morgan runner up nett 73.
C Grade - winner Peter Chen nett 70 with Christopher Dyer runner up nett 71.
Temporary Nine Hole Course
Warren Ryan won with 18 points on a count back from David Stanley.
NTP 11th hole - Adem De Manicor
Pro-Pin - Jimmy Pinkstone.
Scratch winner - with a great gross score of 74; Jimmy Pinkstone.
Sunday - White Course Medley Stableford
Winning with 34 points John Buchanan.
Last week the repairs started on the clubhouse roof to replace rusted sheeting and broken tiles to arrest the leaks which caused the ceiling damage some months ago. The building team worked efficiently to remove areas of tiles, instal sarking, replacing sarking boards and refitting the tiles. Cracked tiles have and are being replaced. While the recent strong westerly winds have been good for the course, not so great if you are working on a roof. Once this work is completed the internal repairs will commence. We will keep you posted on when this work will be done and the potential impact on club opening times. See the photos below, click on them to enlarge for more detail.
