Visitors. It's great to hear the compliments received about our club. The hard work of the green staff is there for all to see on the course. At this time of year, the intense green in the new spring foliage is at its best. I took a few photos Friday and Saturday of groups. The group on Saturday was from 'Australian Hot Water', a long established company who joined us on Saturday after their week long conference in Milton Park. Our members were very pleased when they stayed for the presentation and the group received a welcoming  applause when introduced. We have a great course and a club atmosphere that is probably unmatched. On Saturday we had 138 people on the course and 77 on Sunday.

Carts
Thank you to our members and visitors for complying with the requirement of using carts on the course of  keeping them in the rough were possible and keeping clear of the greens.

Booking carts policy
The club has 10 carts and has access to a couple  more from time to time. Members and visitors both hire carts and this is on a first come first serve basis although some carts are kept back for members where possible. As well as this the visitors tee times are arranged to get the maximum utilisation from the carts and at the same time endeavouring to ensure that carts are available for members when required.  It is not always possible to achieve this and infrequently members may miss out on a cart hire and for that matter visitors may too.

Please book carts explicitly with the pro-shop when wanting a cart for your round of golf. The pro-shop can confirm one is available to you at the time of booking, or, if a cart is not available at the desired time, they may suggest a time when one will be available and book that time for you.

Countbacks
On Saturday, in deciding the winner of the A Grade Stableford comp, the countback went right through to an 18 hole countback. Normally for two competitors on the same score, at the end of 18 holes, the one with the best back 9 is the winner. If not the last 9, then the last 6, then the last 3 and then it goes to an 18 hole countback. The best score on 18, 17 etc. This one was decided on the 15th. In recent years, this is the only time I can remember it happening. Below is a piece taken from the website on Countbacks.

Countbacks
At Bowral, in competition management, the pro shop staff  manage all men's and medley competitions. The software in use is by Golf Computer Systems which has been tested to conform with the requirements of Golf Australia. The count back system we use in arriving at competition placings and prizes is along the lines of that recommended  by Golf Australia. all count back results are checked by hand as as an extra check from the result indicated by the computer system.

"The winner and other placing are determined on the basis of the best score for the last nine holes. If the tying players have the same score for the last nine, determine the winner on the basis of the last six holes, last three holes, and finally hole-by-hole from the 18th hole. If this method is used in a handicap stroke play competition, one-half, one-third, one-sixth, etc of the handicaps should be deducted. Fractions should not be disregarded. Ties are to be decided over the last nine, last six, last  three, and last hole, in the event of a tie at that point then an 18 hole count back will be carried out. In 36, 54, and 72-hole events, the last 18 holes shall be used and if still tied count-back as per an 18- hole round. In 27-hole events, the 18-hole card shall be used in the first instance."

On Saturday Alan Turpie was the generous winner of the pro-pin comp. The Captain 'did a 'mis-speak' - (to use a now popular  Americanism) and announced a different winner - an apology was accepted by Alan.
