FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year there will be no qualifying round for the above Championship, Instead it will be decided from an open draw with a sign on sheet in the proshop. Entries will close on Sunday February 24th. The first round must be played by Sunday 10th March. The dates for completion of subsequent rounds including the final series will be confirmed when we know the number of teams entering and the draw is made.
Our membership is growing with some different categories of membership eligible to play who may not be able to play in a qualifying round, which in past years has been played in conjunction with the Patron’s Trophy.
Foursomes is very popular with many - this change permits greater participation in the Foursomes Club Championship.

COURSE SAFETY
There  is a sign (pictured left) at the beginning of the concrete path leading from the 4th green to the three way tee. This sign advises players to be aware there may be players hitting off the 17th tee and not to proceed until the tee is clear. Some players, members and visitors alike either do not see or ignore the sign putting themselves in danger. Soon there will be a STOP sign as well as the current warning sign.
Please stop, look and proceed with care.

WHITE HORSE CUP
Both of our teams competed on Sunday with mixed results. The following tells the story.

On a beautiful day in Jamberoo Bowral 2 managed to hold Lnks Shell Cove 2 to a Draw.

Links Shell Cove were coming off a 4-2 win in the first round and
entered the competition hoping to increase their lead with another win.
No Chance!!
Paul Carrol 4/2, Ashley Southon 3/2 and Piero Dal Bianco 1 up killed
their chances.
Simon Weston, Paul Pettiford and Pat Donoghue fought hard but were
pipped at the post.
Congratulations to the team - well done.

Our next match is at Sussex Inlet starting 9.10 on February 24.
The two Pauls (Carroll and Pettiford) are not available for this game so
Phillip Jeffery and Peter Shortle come off the bench to complete the
team of 6.

May we continue to improve...

David Burgess and his team didn’t fare so well going down to Links Shell Cove 5 to 1 at Jamberoo.
This was their first match of the season having a bye last week.
Beware the wounded golfer! Whoever their opponents are next round had better be afraid….very afraid!

BOXMOR TROPHY - PRESIDENT v CAPTAIN

This Trophy originated in 1979 when two good friends Ted Box and Joe Morrison, both long serving club members turned 80 years of age. A special competition was created, with half the field playing for Ted Box and the other half for Joe Morrison. A dinner was held after the match and and was so enjoyable that it became a Club tradition and is now the President's team versus the Captain’s team.
Teams then were selected by the president and the captain by a method of alternate choices. The match was played as 4BBB match play.

For some time now there is no dinner after the match and the trophy is played as a 4BBB stableford and the teams are selected by personal preference on the day. These changes   in no way detract from the occasion.

Saturday February 9th 2019 saw this prestigious trophy contested under blue skies but with quite blustery conditions which became stronger as the day progressed considerably disadvantaging the afternoon players.
Believers and followers of Karma And Zen are convinced the result of the event was preordained that the president's team would be victorious.  A clear cut win 11 matches to 8 with 4 halved.
Our President is stepping down this year after 4 years as president and 3 years as captain before that.
Am I sorry my team has relinquished the trophy? Yes, however I think it fitting the president's team was able to send Kevin out as a winner. So in light of this I will not be requesting a recount or querying the distribution of preferences.

Congratulation Kevin on your teams win and thanks for guiding our club to its current solid position during your tenure as President.
