In February this year, Cathy Ashton visited the club to donate her father's golf clubs and "Exercise Book" to the club to remember Arthur Stone contribution to BGC and the NSW Green-keepers Association. The "Exercise Book" was in poor condition and has now been restored back to good health. The article (see left) is from the Southern Mail, Friday the 18th of January 1952. It is great to have these items as additions to the clubs long history. It is clear that Arthur was held in high regard as a greenskeeper and a family man in Bowral. The "Exercise Book" is a thesis on green keeping in the Sydney Basin region. When Cathy first contacted us we thought that the book would be a diary of his work on our course. But it is much more than that, it's a comprehensive work on every aspect of golf course management. A hand written masterpiece. The book will be "scanned" and added to the BGC website for members to read during windy and cold winter nights. The photos below are of the book and golf clubs. Arthurs hickory shaft putter is now hanging from the Members Room sign. See below.... Thanks go to Darryl for restoration of the hickory clubs. |
