Golf Illawarra have announced details of the Pennants draw for the Illawarra next year. We have again entered two teams of six in the White Horse Cup.The two teams are known as Bowral 1 and Bowral 2 capably managed by David Burgess and Alec Dietsch with overall Captain and co-ordinator Don Barker. Games will be played from early February each Sunday until the finals in mid March. Any members who enjoy the Match Play experience and would like to join this intrepid bunch of Bowral Golf Club warriors, please contact Don Barker, David Burgess or Alec Dietsch. White Horse Cup is limited to members who have a GA handicap from 0 to 24.4. It is a great experience and not having won the cup in about 53 years of trying, the club lives in hope that 2018 will be the year. Your support would be most appreciated. A copy of the Rules of Competition and Draw are attached.
This years Veteran's Plate, (a trophy donated by the club in 1995 to encourage those members over 65, to compete in the qualifying rounds for the Club Championship), was won by Grant Blanchard. Although the competition is over two rounds, your Captain in a "seniors moment" presented Grant with the Trophy after the first round. Having realised my mistake the next day, I delayed publication of the Blog and photograph until after completion of the second round of competition. I got to Grant on the tee before he hit off for the second round and informed him of my error. I suggested he play his "heart out" and secure a further good score to justify his winning of the trophy. What pressure. Grant in his own style, because that's the way he is, didn't let me down. With a net 67 and net 70 for a combined score of 137, Grant is the worthy winner of the Veteran"s Plate and deserves the accolades he will receive. Congratulations Grant and thank you for "saving my bacon"
The qualifying rounds for the 2017 Club Championships have been completed and the draws are attached for A, B & C Grades. With the limited number of A graders competing those qualifying for "B" Grade were given the chance to move to "A" Grade to complete the field and fight for the most prestigious trophy in the Club. The first round of match-play should be completed by 29/10/17, the semi finals by 05/11/17 and the finals will be held on Sunday 19/11/17. The Conditions of Competition are on the Notice Board in the club House and Pro Shop and can be accessed on the Clubs web site. Congratulations to all participants and good luck in your match play.
Last Saturday the field contested for the long standing and prestigious Redmond Dalton Memorial Trophy for Handicap Stableford. The extended Dalton family members are good supporters of our club and this event is in memory of Dr. Redmond Dalton. The trophy, a silver plate, was donated by the family in 1982 and has been presented to the winner annually since. As tradition holds, the family then join together for a private dinner. Although this event has been moved over the last several years it has again clashed with the football finals, which restricts members from attending the presentation. For that reason, we will move the event forward next year, with the families consent, to Saturday 22/09/18 to give the event the focus it deserves. Our photo shows Andrew Fairbairn, grandson of Dr. Dalton and family nominee, presenting the trophy to this year's winner Don Barker. Congratulations Don on a great win.
